UNL's New Dance Festival
scheduled at Kimball Hall
Eleven students will dance this
weekend at UNL's New Dance Festival
in work choreographed by two profes
sional guest artists.
At the festival, scheduled for Friday
and Saturday at 8 p.m. at Kimball Hall,
the student s will present "Little Wars,"
a piece by Edward Burgess and Lane
Sayles.
Burgess and Sayles are at UNL's
department of theatre, arts and dance
in conjunction with a two-week dance
residency sponsored by UNL with sup
port from the Nebraska Arts Council.
Students auditioned Jan. 11 to dance
in the festival.
The student performers are Paul
Buresh, Jeanne Finnigan, Greta Gage,
Julie Gartner, Tamara Gemar, Vicki
Grossenbacher, Joette Haase, Julie
Hartnett, Kent Lindemer, Traci Nelson
and Jackie Wheeler.
Many of the "Little Wars" dancers
and Michelle Cacioppo, Shelly Curry,
Donna Schieffer and Kim Schureman
will perform "Cosmos," choreographed
by UNL dance instructor Nancy Brestel.
Curry, Gage and Gemar also will
dance in "Gravity Angel's Toast," cho
reographed by UNL dance director
Jerry Bevington.
Bevington and Brestel also will dance
in "Little Wars."
Burgess and Sayles will perform
"Leftovers," choreographed by Sayles
and set to music by Pat Metheny. They
also will present the world-premiere
showing of "Three Duets" by Burgess,
set to piano music by Enrique Granados.
Bevington said the New Dance Festi
val "aims to present modern choreo
graphy in the traditions of New York's
Brooklyn Academy of Music's 'Next
Wave' dance series."
Tickets are on sale at Temple Box
Office, Kimball Box Office and the
Nebraska Union. They are $6 general
admission and $4 for UNL students.
