Mffi) lilnjl MMEPlriUl University child care searches for location beyond City Campus By Kim Schwartze Staff Reporter The University Child Care Project, now in Commonplace at 333 N. 14th St., will move off City Campus by May 1986, said Joyce Wagner, project director. "We have a search committee to find a new location," Wagner said. "We tried to find a first floor space with two exits on campus, but nothing could be found to suit our needs." UNL bought Commonplace in Janu ary 1985 from the Presbyterian Synod Church. The UCCP originally was sche duled to move in May 1985, but was given a one-year extension by the Nebraska Union Board so the project could find a suitable location. Daryl Swanson, Union Board director and member of the UCCP's search committee, said UCCP's move was part of the purchase agreement. "It was generally felt then, and I think now, that their function and presence was in conflict with other uses of the building," Swanson said. Child care licensing rules require children to sleep on first floors, and the UCCP fully occupies the basement. This makes it hard to use the building for anything else, Swanson said. The Union Board hasn't decided yet what the UCCP's space will be used for. "Student pot luck dinners could be held there," Swanson said. "It could be divided nicely into three meeting rooms, or student organization offices, or both." The UCCP has asked three churches if it could use their buildings. "The First Presbyterian Church on 17th and F (streets) and Grace United Methodist on 27th and R streets have turned us down, but we're negotiating with Prince of Peace Lutheran Church right now," Wagner said. 'They've been very open, positive and cooperative." Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 1201 Benton St. will vote Feb. 6 whether it will accept the UCCP. If the UCCP is allowed to use the Prince of Peace buildings, renovations must be made to meet licensing require ments. Wagner said the UCCP is brain storming on fund-raising projects to pay for necessary changes. Students, staff members and faculty members, who use the center were polled recently by the UCCP to deter mine how they felt about the project's relocation. Results will be released Jan. 31. Digest Math anxiety A support group for students enrolled in Math 100 is being offered by the Educational Psychology Clinic. The program, which meets twice a week, includes new ideas in study skills, test-taking and relief from anx iety about working with numbers. The clinic is also offering a pre statistics workshop to review neces sary math skills and introduce stu dents to basic topics. It will deal with subjects concerning fear of statistics, such as taking control and "blocking" on tests. For more information, call the Edu cational Psychology Clinic, 130 Ban croft, 472-1152.
