tmdeiit lobbying at Capitol
NSSA from Page 1
NSSA's resolution is "the epitome of
what NSSA is for," said Pete Castel
lano, UNLNSSA delegate.
"It makes one strong argument for
the whole state. It's of common inter
est between schools."
Chapelle said it is important for stu
dents to voice their opinion concerning
the three percent across-the-board bud
get cut proposal. Communication to
state legislators from students
through letters and phone calls is
important, she said.
"Their point of view is important. It
cannot be duplicated," Chapelle said.
"No one knows what it's like to sit in
class, study and work for an education
but the students who do it."
Chapelle said she encourages stu
dents to lobby at the state capitol
today at 1:30 p.m. during the appropri
ations committee meeting.
"They must realize that their opin
ions are important. It's their responsi
bility to let legislators know how they
feel. Their opinions make a difference
right now," Chapelle said.
In other business, NSSA passed
unanimously a resolution introduced
by the UNLNSSA chapter resulting
from the Smith Hall women's athletic
study facility controversy.
The resolution stated that NSSA and
each NSSA chapter represented, in
conjunction with campus administra
tors, form policy for their respective
campuses that provides a procedure to
ensure student input on all construc
tion, including renovation, of bond
funded facilities for student use.
"The bill was introduced because we
wanted to see if other campuses had
the same problem," said Patty Sokolik,
UNLNSSA delegate. "I think passing
the resolution will heighten the level of
communication between administration
and students."
