University Health Center officials
got a chance to show off their reno
vated building last week when they
sponsored the Big Eight Health Center
Conference Thursday and Friday.
The conference was held in conjunc
tion with the completion of the new
health center. Dr. Gerald Fleischli, the
center's medical director, said each
school represented at the conference
shared information about alcohol and
drug use, survey systems, computer
systems, after-hours operations, fees
and legislative issues.
"Each of us take turns hosting the
meeting," Fleischli said. "We thought
this would be a good year for us to
host."
Most administrators who attended
the conference praised the new center.
"I'm envious because of the pro
grams put together, the space you have,
comprehensive student health service,"
said Dr. Rolan Zick of the Wardenburg
Student Health Service at the Univer
sity of Colorado.
"It's like moving from a barn into a
house," said James Stobl, associate
director at Watkins Memorial Hospital
Student Health Service at the Univer
sity of Kansas.
"Mine was opened in 1 889. I'm quite
envious," said Dr. Robert Tout, medical
director of the Lafene Health Center, at
Kansas State University.
"Each student health center tries to
pattern to meet the needs of the stu
dents," said Gray Walters from Watkins
Memorial. "UNL's is superb."
