State Sen. Ernest Chambers of Omaha talks to a group of students during the anti-apartheid rally
Friday behind the Nebraska Union.
Chambers: Blacks must fight
CHAMBERS from Page 1
People who oppose a black revolu
tion in South Africa are against blacks
because after they gain control, "there
might be racial domination," he said.
"(Those in opposition) say there might
be injustice. What is there now?"
Chambers asked.
"What they are afraid of is that black
people will learn the lessons that have
been taught to us down through the
years and apply them to our oppressor,
where it would be justified," he said.
If students want to help solve the
injustices in South Africa, Chambers
said, "they have to begin raising money
to help the black people and the few
white people in South Africa who are
concerned about freedom, to obtain
the weapons necessary to fight against
the racists in South Africa."
Tours, demonstrations planned
Computing services to be displayed
By Linda Hartmann
Staff Reporter
Chances are that anyone with a
question about computing can find an
answer this week during the "Comput
ing Extravaganza."
The week-long schedule of activi
ties, sponsored by the UNL Computing
Resource Center, is open to all UNL
faculty, students and staff members.
Kathryn Alderman, computer educa
tion specialist and program coordina
tor, said activities each day will bal
ance mainframe and microcomputer
interests.
Alderman said UNL has services and
equipment that people aren't aware of.
"Computing is a hot issue right
now," Alderman said. "We'll have a
chance to tell them where we're going."
She said the center will offer dem
onstrations, tours, classes, presenta
tions and discussions about computing
possibilities at UNL. Activities are
scheduled at different places on
campus.
Several demonstrations will cover
beginning computing as well as more
complex systems used in some UNL
classes, Alderman said.
Other activities include:
The opening of the Faculty Sup
port Center (FASTER), a computer
laboratory for UNL faculty and staff
members in the Wick Alumni Center.
O Panel discussion on microcom
puters in the classroom.
O Tours of the computer-use rooms
in Nebraska Hall.
A presentation by Doug Gale,
director of the Computing Resource
Center, on computing plans for the
future at UNL.
O A discussion with four people
working in computer-related fields
without computer science degrees.
O A three-hour grand tour for those
unable to attend the individual tours
scheduled during the week.
Alderman said most events do not
require pre-registration. Complete infor
mation about the nearly 30 events
scheduled is available in the Comput
ing Resources Center, 302 Teachers
College.
