Monday, September 30, 1985 HA OKs resolution on common area use By P'cina Johnson Staff 'oporter A resolution supporting Harper-Schramm-Smith senate's power to reg ulate the use of common areas in the HSS complex was passed unanimously by the Residence Hall Associatioa KHA senators discussed the resolu tion for almost two hours during their meeting Thursday. RHA's resolution also orders a delay in opening the Smith Hall athletic study facility until a satisfactory, via ble solution is reached with the HSS senate. RHA's action was requested by the Smith Study Area Investigative Com mittee. The resolution says the women's athletic study area in Smith Hall was researched and construction was begun without consulting any student or stu dent government, violating HSS resi dents' rights. The Smith Study Area Investigative Committee plans to meet with Rudy Lewis, vice chancellor of student affairs and UNL women's and men's athletic department. "We want to find out the story of exactly what happened," said Sydney Warner, committee chairwoman. After a meeting with UNL Housing Director Douglas Zatechka Wednesday Warner said Zatechka was approached in midJuly by Chancellor Martin Mas sengale and UNL Athletic Director Bob Devaney to find a location in the resi dence halls for the women's athletic study facility. "Zatechka was under pressure to give them an answer as soon as possi ble he told us," Warner said. "We want to know why it was rushed so quickly and why they couldn't wait until the students returned from summer vaca tion so they at least could be told. The investigative committee also asked for ASUN's support in its research but was refused when the bill was dropped during a special session of ASUN, also Thursday. "We will continue to go through the normal procedures in our investigation until all our questions are answered " said Dan Hofmeister, investigative com mittee member and ASUN senator. "Negotiation is the key in this issue," Hofmeister said during the special session. HSS senate will meet in open forum at 6:30 p.m. tonight in the HSS fond service. Zatechka will speak. Devaney also was invited to speak, said Mike Baacke, HSS senate member. Police Report The following incidents were reported to UNL police between 12:51 am. Thursday and 9:32 p.m. Saturday.
