Andrews had proposed the idea to make up for UNMC's $2.1 million shortfall for fiscal year 1985-86. The board instead adopted a plan by Regent Robert Koefoot of Grand Island to raise medical center tui tion an average of 36.2 percent and make $500,000 in internal budget reallocations to keep the two pro grams alive. The tuition increase would generate about $950,000 for UNMC. It would take effect in 1986. Actress Debra Winger, a fre quent companion of Gov. Bob Kerrey since the two met during filming of 'Terms of Endearment' in Lincoln two years ago, was ticketed in late July for speeding, 51 mph in a 35 mph zone. Winger, who was driving Kerrey's state-leased luxury sedan, was returning from a swim at the Prairie Life Center, 70th and A streets, in which Kerrey holds a financial interest through a blind trust. The incident drew national atten tion after Lincoln Star columnist Curt Donaldson jokingly announced 'The Winger Dinger Fund,' estab lished to raise enough money for Winger to buy a car from used car dealer Weird Wally. About $900 was raised and Winger later said she would match the total to buy a '75 Caprice that she donated to Lincoln's Women in Community Service home for girls. The speeding ticket cost Winger $51 ($26 for speeding and $25 for the license charge) plus $21 in court costs. O S.E. Copple was flown to the federal minimum security prison in Fort Worth, Texas. lie will serve the state sentence concurrently with the fed eral sentence at Fort Worth. Operating hours at the Shel don Art gallery have been reduced. UNL Chancellor Martin Massengale ordered the move in wake of the $2.2 million shortfall the campus now faces. The Sheldon Gallery will now be open from 1 2-5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday and Sundays 2-5 p.m. Pre viously, the art gallery had opened at 10 a.m. on weekdays. Massengale's directives also in creases admission prices at the Sheldon Film Theatre to $3.75, up 75 cents, and reduces film theater programming to four nights per week.
