journalistic ethics.
UNL docs not. B. Ncale Copple,
dean of the UNL College of Jour
nalism, said he sees no reason for
a separate course, Ethics should
be stressed in every course, even
introductory ones, Copple said.
Copple agreed with Abrams that
most students seem responsible.
But students make mistakes, Cop
ple said, and student journalists
aren't always ethical.

"There's always an effort to
abuse freedom everywhere," he
said.
In the late 1960s and early 70s,
college journalists "spent an inor
dinant amount of time attacking
administration cf any kind," Cop
ple said. Then administrators got
too sensitive and tried harder to
stifle the press, he said. At some
schools, such as the University of
California at Berkeley, the papers
moved off campus, he said.
But for the most part, Copple
said, he has seen cooperation
among campus journalists and
administrators, including those at
UNL
"I think the paper has come
through in good shape. And the
administration has come through
with a good record, too."
