'The Eyes'...
Continued from Pags 12
Bellccchio tells us the sins we
commit against "mother." The
suicide note reads "Forgive me. I
had no luck in love. I'm sorry,
Mama"
The whole mother sequence
here is an admission of just how
deep of an influence mothers have
on the life of a child even after the
child becomes an adult.
Bellocchio presents us with a
world where people have their
own personal hang-ups. Vanda's
father longs for a world vhere
right is right and wrong is wrong
forever. Giovanni's uncle defends
his nephews right to die. He ig
nores the fact that his nephew
was young and healthy and should
have just broken away. Vanda
admits to running away as a
child. The mother lives in her lit
tle world of expectation. The
children are possessed by the tele
vision. The movie is a fairly ac
curate sweep of some personal
insights and societal problems.
There is a lot to experience, and I
enjoyed the movie because of the
topics it raised. Bellocchio pres
ents a lot of material in a master
ful way.
