Union Board president May
Marcy presented a timeline out
lining the renovation and plan
ning of the Commonplace Build
ing at a Union Board meeting
Tuesday night.
The NU Board of Regents eppr
oved the purchase of the Com
monplace Building, 333 N. 14th
St., for the Nebraska Union's use
Friday.
Marcy said that the Common
place Building may be used by
groups other than those now us
ing the Nebraska Union.
"We need to decide what kind
of constituency we are going to
service in the renovations." Marcy
said.
Nebraska Union Director Daryl
Swanson said renovations will
include an entrance for the han
dicapped and fire escapes from
the second and third floors.
In other business, a motion
failed which would have allowed
the University Health Center and
Pearle Vision Center to test for
glaucoma' in the main lounge.
Some Board members said this is
not the lounge's purpose.
When the south crib is reno
vated, it may be used for activi
ties currently not allowed in the
main lounge,Swanson said. Ren
ovation progress is "good," he
said.
The Board discussed a proposed
visiter's center which may be built
between the Nebraska Union and
the administration building. '
Frank Kuhn, assistant director
of the Nebraska Union, said a
large screen television may be
bought to replace the one in the
north lounge. It may show the
Video Network programming con
tracted by the University Program
Council, he said.
The Board also discussed the
possible need for better lighting
near the Nebraska Union's south
west wheelchair ramp. The ramp
entrance may be open 24 hours
when computers are installed in
Nebraska Union.
