Northwestern, which had lately shown disturbing signs of attain ing respectability in football, returned to its gory days Saturday, racking up 49 yards on offense in a 3-31 thrashing by Iowa. They were also penalized 37yards (for repeatedly gumming their opponents) and thus wound up with plus-12 yards for the day. The Mildcats (1-5) were the highest-ranking newcomer on the Bottom Ten chart, debuting at No. 2. They have a nice beat and they're easy to dance to. -i y is 'torn Teia le CRUMMY GAME OF HIE 7EElix Utah State (0-4) vs. Cal State-Long Beach (Spruce Goose) (0-5). BAD COMPANY: The coaching staffofPomona Pitzer (Claremont, Calif.) phoned the Bottom Ten headquarters last week to protest the school being rated even with UCLA at No. 16. After P-Ps subsequent win over Claremont-Mudd and UCLA's loss to Stanford, the Bottom Ten can only apologize. S1 miSMk Bottom 10 The only flowerhouse ahead of them is No. 1 Alabumble (1-4), off to its most remarkable start since the 1D55 team that quarterback Bart Starr led to an 0-10 finish. All this and bad reviews, too, for "The Bear " the just-released movie about Bear Bryant, which features Joe Namath in the role of Kenny Stabler. , Elsewhere, Holy Cross toppled No. 5 Dartmouth 30-20 in a seesaw game. Runners pt P - v v some resoect an THE PROS Cincinnati's Bungles may go down in history as the first 0-5 team ever to enter a game as a 7-point favorite. Of course, they were playing even more hopeless Houston, also known as Who?ston. The two teams were tied 0-0 for most of the first half, and CBS assured fans repeatedly that the magic moment either team scored, the network ' would break into its regional games to record the achievement. Three seconds before half time, the- Bungles' Jim, Breech converted a field goal, and members of the news media and fans spilled out onto the field. Having blown this chance, the Oilers seem . unlikely to win a game for several years, which is a pity. In any other year, Bay (Green) (1-5) would still be in contention for the Bottom Ten title. It's obvious what's wrong with the Packers: They need Bart Starr back as coach.
