UNL rowers
win in Iowa
UNL rowers reaped rib
bons, T-shirts and medals,
winning three of six events
at the first annual Head of
the Des Moines Regatta in
Des Moines, Iowa.
Husker novice crewers
rowed for gold in the men's
and women's eight races
against thin competition and
the varsity lightweight
women's four beat the Uni
versity of Chicago and Wash
burn. The varsity men, rac
ing in both the light and
heavyweight eight competi
tion, took second to Notre
Dame and Northeastern, re
spectively. Purdom said he was
pleased with the Husker
rowers performance, noting
a marked improvement over
their efforts in Iowa two
weeks ago.
'It was a good experience
for the novices," Purdom
said. They're reaUy begin
ning to blossom."
The team has a dual next
week with Creighton Uni
versity in Omaha before its
homecoming regatta Oct. 28
in Lincoln.
