Franchising corporation executives
hope to cash in on CBA program

McDonald's, Valentino's and
Taco John's may not serve the
same kind of food, but they do
have one thing in common they
are all members of the Inter
national Franchise Association.
Top executives from major
franchising corporations across
the United States met at UNL
Thursday and Friday to help the
College ci Business Administra
tion make its new Franchise
Studies program best serve the
industry.
"Franchising is no longer merely
a way of doing things, it's a way of
life," said James Trethewey, senior
vice president of Sheraton Motels.
Trethewey spoke at a luncheon
Friday for franchise executives.
"We must look to colleges " he
said. "That's why we're here today
to support the mission and
long-term objective of the Fran
chise Studies program at the Uni
versity of Nebraska."
UNL's College of Business Ad
ministration added its franchise
program a year ago, and this
semester added its first franchis
ing class Franchising Manage
ment 448848. The course, dir
ected by Professor Robert Justis,
deals with important aspects of
beginning and managing a new
franchise.
Bill Cherkasky, executive vice
president of the International
Franchise Association, also spoke
at the luncheon. He said he en
joyed seeing what the students
and professors are doing.

we're going to support you all we
can."
Cherkasky announced that the
International Franchise Associa
tion has offered UNL an intern
ship for the upcoming semester.
"Thjs (Franchise Studies Pro
gram) marks the maturing of the
corporation," Cherkasky said.
