Huslcer women 's Softball team falls
om run short in champumship game

The women's soft ball team fell
one run short of winning the Illi
nois State Invitational. Oklahoma
State, who the Huskers beat to
win last year's NCAA regional,
defeated Nebraska 1-0 in the cham
pionship game. It was the sea
son's firct action for both teams.
"I would rather lose to Okla
homa State now than later on in
the season when it really means
something " coach Wayne Daigle
said.
The Huskers opened the tour
nament by beating Oklahoma State
2-0. Mori Emmons was the win
ning pitcher.
Saturday morning the Huskers
beat Missouri 2-1. Donna Dear
dorff was the winning pitcher
and Sipple got the save.
Daigle said Sipple pitched excel
lent softball throughout the tour
nament. She tallied more than 27
innings, had 26 strikeouts and
allowed only three runs and three
hits.
Heidi Schlabach vasfour of 13
for an average of .308, with one
home run and one run batted in.
The Huskers travel to Iowa State
this weekend for the Iowa State
Invitational, and return to host
the Husker Invitational Sept. 28
31 at Mabel Lee field.

Sipple pitched a no-hitter against
Illinois State in the semifinal, which
the Huskers won 2-0.
The Cornhuskers were 3-2 in
the tournament. Their other loss
was to Illinois State,, which won
