Holiday Inn comedy nights
to import national acts
By Chrb Buxbnch

The Airport Holiday Inn's com
edy club premiered Wednesday
night to a crowd so large the
management had to set up a bar
In the hotel lobby.
Needless to say, Holiday Inn
general manager Richard Vyse is
optimistic about the show's chan
ce for success.
"We're really excited" Vyse said.
"The first night was very success
ful." In contrast to Patoots Sa
loon's Bad Comedy Night, which
features local and area talent,
Holiday Inn's show will import
national acts.
Comedians like Bobby Sessions,
Barry Sobel and Virgil Washing
ton will perform in Lincoln at the
behest of Jerry Pippin Produc
tions of Tulsa, Okla. Many of the
acts coming to Lincoln have per
formed in Las Vegas, Los Angeles
and New York. Vyse hired Pippin
"to help figure out what we could
do with our lounge" he said.
The show runs Wednesday
through Saturday nights. It has
no cover charge and offers an
open mike for would-be-comedians
on Wednesday and Thurs
day nights.
On those nights, the featured
comedian will emcee the show
and open the stage for audience
participation, Vyse said.
Six people took advantage of
the open mike Wednesday, and
two were so funny they got hired
to come back and perform for
money, Vyse said.
Although the Airport Holiday
Inn is a fair distance from UNL,
Vyse said he doesn't think that
will hurt his business. In fact, he's
targeting the college crowd.
"We're really, leaning toward
the college people, though we're
not totally directing ourselves to
that market," he said. "Some of
the comedians, especially those
from the audience, get a little
risque once in a while. Older peo
ple dont appreciate that."
