wi e . f ft a ri A , By Donna Slsson Along with everything else, the cost of tuition and housing at UNL will increase for the 1034-85 school year. The cost per credit hour for UNL students in creased 10 percent, said Bob Clark, director of student accounts. Next year, Nebraska residents will pay $38 per credit hour instead of last year's $34.50. Nonresidents will pay $ 1 03 compared to last year's $93.50, Clark said. Although it is comparatively large, the 10 percent increase is very common, Clark said. Besides paying per credit hour, students also must pay program and facility fees each year. Program and facility fees have two parts. Fund A helps pay for the Daily Nebraskan, ASUN, the Nebraska State Student Association, among other groups. Fund B covers the University Health Center, the retirement of funds, the Nebraska and East unions and the recreation department and facili ties, Clark said. The maximum fee will be $95.28 per semester, Clark said. All students taking seven or more credit hours must pay the maximum fee, he said. The 1984-85 fee increased 8 percent from 1983 84's fee of $88.20. This Is the largest fee increase ever, Clark said. Comparing UNL's tuition and fees rate with other Big Eight schools b difficult, Clark said. Each VA Eight school has its own system for assessing tuition and student fees, he said. Some schools charge a flat tuition rate and some, like UNL, charge, per credit hour. Others blend program and facilities fees with credit hour charges, while some include a charge for athletic tickets, Clark said. Doug Zatechka, director of University Housing at UNL, said that comparing housing costs also causes problems. Different schools charge for different services, Zatechka said. Some schools may have lower housing rates than UNL, he said, but these schools' services might not include a telephone, linen services or other services which could add more than $100 per year. When isolating fees for the same services, UNL ha3 the seventh lowest housing rate of all Big Eight schools, Zatechka said. The lowest is Kansas State University, he said. Housing rates for the 1984-85 school year will be $1925, up 3'4 percent from last year, Zatechka said. The largest increases in housing were around nine percent and occurred during the school years beginning in 1980 and 1981, when inflation was running high, he said. Housing rates continue to increase, but have stayed well under Inflation, Zatechka said.
