"We're not out there to teach any
body anything," Hawkes has been quot
ed as saying.
Bassist Ben Orr has backed Hawkes
by expressing the difficulty of "walking
around the front of the stage and
slapping hands with the fans in the
front row while trying to do 'Drive'."
This is all true, but when the band
fails to communicate with its audience
and looks bored on stage, it doesn't do
much for the feeling of the show.
On the other hand, that decision
(not to do any talking) is an artist's
perogative and should be respected.
Renditions of almost everything from
their five albums were warmly received
by those who stayed in the arena
throughout the show, but a healthy
minority took to the video games in the
hallways after the fifth or sixth song.

Eic Ocasek of The Cars: Coasting in Omaha
Daily Ntbrasksn
Review by Enndy Wyracre -
Heartbeat City became Comatose
City for 90 minutes Wednesday night
as Ric Ocasek and the Cars coasted
into Omaha for a less-than-spect?cular
show.
Looking like a shiny pink sports car
but sounding more like a 1964 Ply
mouth with a bad muffler and a loose
belt, the Boston-based supergroup
became a good argument for having
seats for everyone in the audience.
And if not seats, then at least padded
Appetizers...

floors so that when the crowd fell
asleep no injuries would occur when
the somnolent bodies hit the ground.
While I have been a critic of bands
who come on stage and pander to the
crowd with invitations to party and
accolades of being the best crowd
weVe seen in a long time," it is now time
to do somewhat of an about face and
advocate some sort of between-song
patter.
In several interviews this summer,
the Cars keyboardist, Greg Hawkes,
has warned that you won't find any of
that at a Cars show.
4 egg yolks
1 tablespoon water or dry white wine
xh cup butter or margarine, softened
V teaspoon salt
dash black pepper
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Beat egg yolks until thick and light
colored. Mix in water and transfer to
top of a double boiler set over barely
simmering water. Heat and stir two to
three minutes until warm, not hot, and
eggs have begun to thicken. Add but
ter, beating continuously until well
blended. Cook, beating, two or three
minutes, until sauce thickens enough
to coat back of spoon. Remove from
heat and stir in salt, pepper and lemon
juice.
