I can't imagine under what conditions anyone
would want to see this movie. The horror of being an
honest film reviewer b that you are forced to sit
through the duration of the film and watch it. Unlike
cable television, you can't turn it off, or at least turn
on the stereo. You know there's something wrong
with a film when you are in physical pain from
knotting muscles. Stallone fans won't like it, I can't
imagine why Parton fans would, and the country
music is pretty bad too, although there is one scene
in which a Hank Williams song plays on the jukebox.
There is also a scene at the beginning featuring a
cowboy singing about his "baby" being run over by a
tractor.
A word of advice: there are too many, mediocre
films around to throw away your money on "Rhinestone."

"I stopped dancing because I was realizing that
the constant training was too much ... I was always
training. If I missed one day, I got tight," Finney said.
"My life was in the hand3 of someone else as far as to
whether I was accepted or not. The cattle calls,
somebody else telling me where to go and what to do
... I didn't want to be a cattle anymore. I wanted to
call my own shots."
In 1 979 he sowed the seeds for the career which is
now blossoming. He worked with the Barry Gordy
family, teaching them dance and stretching move
ments. Finney's knowledge" of stretching landed him
a job with the Harlem Globetrotters, and he was off.
He developed "Finney Method" of stretching, which
stresses quality combinations of movements in accord
with one's lifestyle. For the Globetrotters, that
meant a stretching routine which administered to
muscles punished by basketball and bus rides, but
didn't take long.
"My purpose was to learn about their realm as
Globetrotters, the lifestyle of both the team and the
individuals. I choreographed a.nd enhanced what
they were already doing...It seemed they had a lot of
problems with hamstrings and lower backs, i taught
them how to put combinations of movements together
that would help those specific muscles as fast as
possible," Finney said.
He calls himself the founder of the Finney method

he says he doesn't like the word creator. He deve
loped it out of his own experience, and applies it to
others.
He teaches his method to the clientele of the
Golden Door spa in San Diego, and to anyone else
who can afford it. He worked with John Denver at
The Golden Door, and the singer hired him for a
week long private return engagement in September.
He has been on more than 20 television shows,
mostly demonstrating the Finney Method, and is
booked as an exercise consultant for several trip3
on the Queen Elizabeth II luxury liner this fall.
Finney often talks in terms of learning and teach
ing. In fact, he considers himself a teacher, and has
some very definite opinions about the profession.
"A teacher has to teach students to be interested.
You have to be sensitive to a lack of understanding
at the moment. I take this into my work I like to
think I'm a good teacher. A good teacher constantly
brings peoples' attention to how they're developing,
continual evaluation," Finney said. "I still consider
myself an artist. I think all teachers are artists."
He's no longer a struggling artist. His investment is
maturing, and he said he can see financial success in
the near future
Finney will present two workshops at the South
Jazzercise Center, 5500 Old Cheney Road, Saturday
at 1 and 3 p.m. '
