When Tate got back on her feet the Huskers were
in seventh place. Tate ran an amazing 400-meter
last leg, and the Huskers finished third place.
Nebraska's two jumpers attending the Relays had
a disappointing day also.
Glen Loontjer, the Husker's top pole vaulter,
passed until the bar reached 17-1. He then missed
on hi3 first three attempts and was out.
Jeff Locscher, the Huskers high jumper who
cleared 7-3 XA last week at the Kansas Kelays failed to
clear opening height of 7-0.
Amid all cf this, the Huskers' did place other ath-'
letes. Anthony Small finished sixth in the 1 00-meter
dash; Mark GoSde placed fourth in the 1,500-meter
run; Vally Duffy finished fifth in the 10,000-meter
run; Stephen Fletcher finished fifth in the 1 10-meter
hurdles; Dennis Wallace finished fifth in the 200
meter dash and redshirt Jean Verster finished fifth
in the special invitational 1,500 meter run:

Women's 1,600 relay of Ashmore, Badaini,
Blanford and Tate finished fifth with an Olym
pic trails qualifying time of 3:36,76.
Wally Duffy -finished fifth in 10,000 with
school-record time of 29:22.6.
Stephen Fletcher finished fifth in 110 high
hurdles in 14:31.
Anthony Small finished sixth in 100 in 10:62.
Dennis Wallace placed fifth in 200 in 21:22.

10th. -
Kurt Russell finished eighth in 3,000 stee
plechase in school-record time of 8:54.16.
Mark Gokie placed fourth in 1,500 in 3:45.15.
Jean Verster, a redshirt from South Africa,
finished fifth in men's special 1,500, won by
Steve Scott in 3:38.27. Verster competed un
attached and ran a 3:46.57.

Nebraska's men's tennis team achiev
ed its stated Big Eight tournament
goals this past weekend. The Huskers
finished fourth in the Woodside, Kan.
meet and Jim Carson won the No. 5
singles competition.
UNL Coach Kerry McDermott said
before the meet that if the Huskers
could overtake Colorado and finish
fourth, he would be satisfied. UNL
began the meet three points behind
the Buffaloes. Led by Carson, the Husk
ing the meet was that a Husker indi
vidual could win a title. Carson grant
ed that wish, coming back from a
first-set loss in the finals. Carson defeat
ed Darek Hrynkiewicz of Oklahoma
State, 4-6, 7-5, 64.
Kathy Hawkins' women's tennis team
also finished fourth in the confernece.
Oklahoma State captured every indi
vidual title and the Cowgirls ran away
with the meet. Oklahoma finished sec-
ers outscored CU 62-54 to claim fourth ond followed by Kansas and Nebraska,
place. Oklahoma State easily won the " The Husker's Cari Groce finished
title, followed by Oklahoma, Kansas second in No. 5 singles play as she
