Sponsors will pled money to walkers on a
per mile basis. The adult waller with the most
money from sponsors will win a weekend at
Hyatt Crown Center in Kansas City. The child
walker who raises the most funds will win a
family pass to Kansas City's Worlds of Fun.
Anyone wishing to join in the WaikAmerica
walkathon can pick up a sponsor sheet at any
Lincoln school or call the March of Dimes at
The Lincolnwalk is one of many nationwide,
according to promotion Chairwoman Denfee
Giissman. She said that more than 1.5 million
people will walk this weekend nationwide in
supper t of tl CfEI.ViCS.
Giissman said 28 Lincoln companies formed
teams to compete for most fund 3 raised in the
walk. UNL fraternity Delta ::;;ma Phi also will
compete in the team walk, she said.
Several celebrities will participate. They in
clude Turner Gill and Lincoln's Mary Ann
Gcmrich and her quadruplet sons, Patrick,
Nathan, Matthew and Andrew. -.

to Dromote March of Dimes
The president and general manager
of Lincoln's KXSS radio station will
walk 50 miles from Papillion to Lincoln
today in support of Saturdays March
of Dimes WaikAmerica walk-a-thon in
The purpose of the walk is to pub
licize the March, of Dimes and its fight
against birth defects, along with the
Sam Sabean will walk from Papillion
to Lincoln by way of Highway 370 and
Highway 6. He will start his walk before
the sun rises, and hopes to finish up in
Lincoln between 6 and 7 in the evening
at Lincoln's County City Building
at 555 S. 10th St.
In downtown Lincoln, Sabean will be
joined by the Southeast High School
band and the Kiss-Strohsmobile to
form a parade. Mayor Roland Leudtke
and a March of Dimes representative,
will welcome the procession at the
County City Building.
Sabean will, ask people to pledge
money for every mile he walks. He said
he also will encourage people to renter
for Saturday's WaikAmerica. Pledges
may be made on Sabean's behalf for
the March of Dimes by calling 47(H) 1 18.
"We would like to make people aware
that there is a big event on Saturday,"
Sabean is 53 and considering his age
will establish a world's record if he
completes the walk. -
When he was a disc jockey in Min
neapolis, Sabean set a world's record
for continuous bowling to raise money
for the Cancer Society.
Sabean said the possibilities of what
the March of Dimes could accomplish
gave him an incentive to walk 50 miles.
Sponsors for the walk include Qualico
Van Conversions, Russ' B & R Super
market, and The Athlete's Foot.
