NEVER A COVER CHARGE The first commercial television station in the country to be owned and operated by an American Indian corporation took one more step ollthe draw ing boards this week In a ceremony in the Washington, D.C., office of Federal Communicat ions Cfcinmisdon chairman Mark Fowler, Wallace Cof fey, chairman of the Nat ive American Communi cations Corporation board, received an FCC construct ion permit enabling the corporation to begin build ing a UIIF station which will serve the Lincoln area. "In addition to our com mercial activities, we ex pect to have facilities to train Native Americans to broadcast production and to provide job op portunities for them," Cof fey said. Frank Blyth, president and chief executive officer of the corporation, said that although Native American tribes and or ganizations now own some radio stations, they have no television stations as yet. "The NACC station will be commercial and in a major market area," he said. The NACC filed an ap plication in October 1982 to construct, own and operate the commercial television facility.
