Moe 's boys play to win
The editorial regarding the NU basketball pro
gram (Daily Ncbr&skan, April G) was ludicrous, to
say the least. It is sad to see that the Daily Nebras
kan had lost all sense of spirit by discouraging
top players from coming to Nebraska. That attitude
is not much of a vote of confidence for a team which
has averaged 20 wins during the last two sessions in
major college competition.
It is obvious that the editor does not appreciate
basketball, whether it is played at a run-and-gun
pace, or a more deliberate style. To say that Nebra
ska plays a "mediocre" and "boring" style of basket
ball has no backing whatsoever. The name of the
game is to do what it takes to win. Did Tom Osborne
have Turner Gill throw 50 passes a game last fall?
No, because the offense would not have been as
domineering that way. Is passing the football more
exciting than running the football? Yes, by most
fans accounts. The point is that you go with what
you do best. Nebraska's best chance at winning bas
ketball games was to play the game under control
for 40 minutes.
The editor seemed to imply that the Huskers
would have had the Bob Devaney Sports Center
packed to the rafters if they played run, gun, and
have fun style of ball. Hardly, since they probably
would not have won even half their games playing
that way.
To the writer of the editorial: Don't hurt yourself
by suddenly jumping on the bandwagon when Moe
Iba produces a top 20 basketball team in the near
future with the "top players" he will attract to his
program.

Sexism carried too far
C'mon folks! Let's get real! Enough is enough and
we think that some students are carrying this "sex
ist advertising" nonsense too far. We're writing in
response to the letter (Daily Nebraskan, April 9)
about the Playboy ad, and other letters to the paper
in the past. What do these students want? Ads full of
baseball, hot dogs and apple pie? Sexist attitudes
have been going on for thousands of years. Do you
expect one university newspaper to break this long
running tradition and lose a large percentage of its
advertising patrons? And, if you people are so terri
bly against pornographic magazines, write to Play
boy, not the Daily Nebraskan.

End military solutions
The mannequin in the cage near Broyhill Foutain
is a chilling sight and a dramatic rememberance of
Vietnam. About 2,500 of the war's victims remain
unaccounted for and may still be suffering. It seems
well never be free of the horrors of that war. I
commend the Arnold Air Society for ardently seek
ing relief for these men.
Doubly chilling that this cage should be erected
the day after it was announced the United States
has plans to use combat troops in Central America
should current strategies fail. I would hope we could
go a step further wilth POWMIA Public Awareness
Week and call for an end to American military solu
tions in the Third World.
