Daily Nebraskan Pago 11 Huslcer sofchall team offers a mixed bag ' Wednesday, April 11, 1984 ft if1' 'J ' 'V n1 ... f vf By Wcsd V. Triplctt III The good news for the Nebraska women's Softball team last weekend was that the pitching staff gave up only one run in four games. But that one run resulted in Nebras ka's one loss. The typically strong pitching, counter-balanced by weak run-production has left Softball coach Wayne Daigle wondering what real success the 18-10 Huskers have had this year. "Anytime you give up only one run over four games, you should be win ning," Daigle said. "So right now, its kind of mixed feelings." The weekend games in Stillwater, Okla, were the first of three round robin games against Big Eight compe tition. Nebraska played Iowa Sate and Oklahoma last weekend, and will face Kansas and Missouri this weekend on the Huskers' home field behind Mable Lee Hall. The third and last round robin week end will pit the Huskers against Kan sas State and Oklahoma State. The Cowgirls are still the team to beat in the conference, Daigle said. "We beat them 1-0 and tney beat us 5-1 in the fall," Daigle said. "Last week end, we watched them play and they watched us play. They have probably the best pitcher in the conference (senior Dale Munn)." In order to beat Oklahoma State and win the conference, Daigle said the I V Sria t ports Inform&iion Uori Emmons Nebraska Sports Information Ann Schroeder Huskers will have to improve on their clutch hitting. "We had people on first and second with nobody out in the seventh against Oklahoma," Daigle said. "But we didn't get them around. When you get people on like that, you're supposed to do something with them." The Huskers lose that game 1-0, as Sooner senior Patti Graham threw a one-hitter. On the positive side, Daigle said his team is getting some timely hitting from junior Ann Schroeder. Schroeder, a third baseman from Bellevue, Iowa, had two game winning hits in the weekend series. "She's a very good player, a real headsy player," Daigle said. "She has come throught in the clutch for us as those two hits show." Schroeder is batting .455 against the Big Eight and .234 for the season. Dai gle also said senior infielder Denise Eckert (.341) and freshman catcher Stacy Sunny had strong fielding per formances agains Oklahoma and Iowa State. "But the surprise for us this year has to be Mori Emmons," Daigle said. "She had pitched about six collegiate games before this season, but she's got an 1 1 3 record." "We are winning our share of ball games," Daigle said. "When we stand back and look at who we've been play ing against, we see weVe played a very tough schedule, but we've won." 4) NEED A JOB NEED A JOB THAT FITS AROUND YOUR CLASS SCHEDULE?
