Cancer Society gains
as wheelchairs roll
Proceeds "rolled in" as FarmI louse fraternity and
Alpha Chi Omega sorority members wheeled for 42
hours, beginning Friday, in the Wheelchair Basket
ball Tourn-a-thon.
The fourth annual benefit raised approximately
$2,000 for the Lincoln Chapter of the American
Cancer Society, an increase from last year's $1,200
raised, said FarmI louse philanthropy chairman
Mark Thornburg. Proceeds have increased every
year since the first tourn-a-thon, Thornburg said.
Most of the proceeds come from pledges house
members collect for the event, he said. Money also is
raised by inviting other Greek houses and organizai-.
tons to enter a team for tournament play, which is
run on Saturday.
" This year, 22 teams participated in tournament
play, including celebrity teams from KFRX radio
station and the Wheelie Poppers, an all-handicapped
team. Winners of the tournament were determined
by the number of points scored against the Farm
House and Alpha Chi Omega tournament teams.
In the men's division, first place went to War
neke's Wonders, a team of FarmHouse alumni who
started the event. Acacia fraternity took second
place.
Alpha Delta Pi sorority captured first place in the
women's division,, and Chi Omega sorority took
second place. Winning teams received trophies.
KFRX and Budweiser, sponsored the event. Wheel
chairs were supplied by Omaha medical supply center's.
