Daily Ncbraskan tests interest in insurance V,y Deb Pc Friday, February 24, 1G34 Health Center r UNL students will find another questionnaire in registration packets this spring because the Uni versity Health Center is counting the number of students interested in buying health insurance. Any student taking four or more credit hours who has paid the $39.42 health center fee is eligible for student health insurance, the student health insu rance representative said. Diane Langhorst said the insurance plan cov ers an entire calendar year from Aug. 1 6 to Aug. 16. The plan also covers students during semester breaks, on trips or vaca tions. "Students are covered for the year even if they graduate early," Lang horst said. "Many stu dents take the quarterly payment plan so if they do graduate early and get a job, they can stop pay ing and cancel the con tract." The plan covers all ex penses at the Health Cen ter with the exception of the pharmacy and regu lar dental work. For ser vices in the community, the plan has a $50 deduct ible and covers 80 per cent of the first $2,500 of, expense. It covers all ex penses from $2,500 to $25,000. The plan b ior injury or sickness and is compre hensive rather than sup plementary, said Steve Blom, University Health Center director. "This year there is only a 6 percent increase in the cost of the policy as compared to a 20 to 30 percent increase in other health insurance policies," Blom said. Approximately 1,900 students, or 8 percent of the student body, have UNL student health in surance. Blom said the health center's concern was for all students to have some coverage to avoid a potentially bad financial situation. The insurance plan also covers illnesses or acci dents that may occur whila traveling overseas, Langhorst said. The plan is not limited by geogra phical area. "I suspect about G5 to 70 percent of the stu dents have some form of coverage," Blom sold. The 25 to 35 percent who. dont is the market we're working for.""
