The Series: Missouri leads 10-4. The
Tigers defeated Nebraska 92-71 in Lin
coln Jan. 21. While the Huskers' Debra

Powell scored a game-high 25 points,
Joni Davis and reserve Renee Kelly
combined for 38 points.
The Game: Missouri has its claws
extended after scratching seventh
ranked Kansas State 66-62 in Colum
bia Wednesday night. The 13th-ranked
Tigers pulled into the Big Eight lead
with the victory.
Missouri leads Division I in scoring
(89.2 points), field-goal percentage,
scoring margin (25.3 points) and
rebounding margin (45.5-to-31.8).
Nebraska will attempt to break a
two-game losing streak against the
taller Tigers. In Wednesday's 96-85 loss
to Oklahoma, Nebraska was out
rebounded in the first half 20-10 and
ended the game with a 35-27 deficit.
The Huskers must prevent Missouri
from dominating the boards as it did in
the earlier game in Lincoln. Nebraska
was outrebounded 53-34 in the 92-71
loss.
Nebraska Coach Kelly Hill is con
cerned about the health of her players.
Reserve Ronda Pieper missed Wednes
day's game with bronchitis and won't
travel to Columbia.
Several other players, including Cathy
Owen and Kelli Benson, have the flu.
Benson missed Thursday's practice,
Hill said.
"You can't expect the guards we
have left to put the pressure on our
usual man-to-man defense," Hill said.
"We'll play more zone defense, trying to
sag in on their inside players."
"We're a little flat after Oklahoma,
but you have to encourage them. You
can't think you're defeated before the
game begins."

in Columbia Saturday niht.

The Series: Missouri leads 84-71.
The Tigers squeezed out a 50-48 vic
tory in Lincoln Jan. 21. Malcolm Tho
mas scored 19 for the Tigers, while a
flu-stricken Dave Hoppen and fresh
man Brian Carr paced Nebraska with
12 points each.
The Game: It is doubtful that either
Nebraska or Missouri expected to be
tied for fourth place in the Big Eight
Conference after seven games.
While the Huskers were Wayman
ized by Oklahoma and Tisdale, 78-67,
four-time defending champion Missouri
was beaten in Columbia by cellar
dweller Kansas State 67-46.
Losing for only the sixth time at
home in its last 74 games, the Tigers
trailed the Wildcats 44-32 with less
than six minutes to play. Missouri
Coach Norm Stewart then benched all
of the players on the floor and sent in a
new five. -
"We're still young," Stewart said. "It's
hard when you're a freshman to main
tain good balance throughout the entire
game, making all the offensive and
defensive changes.
"Hopefully, they'll be veteran fresh
men soon."
Stewart juggled his starters in recent
games in an attempt to add scoring
punch to the Tigers' offense. .Missouri
has been held to less than 60 points in
seven of the last nine games.
Against Nebraska in Lincoln, Stew
art inserted sophomore Blake Wor
tham and Thomas.
The Tigers' steadying force has been
6-10 center Greg Cavener, who aver
ages 12 points and 8.5 rebounds. Cav
ener's ball-handling caused Nebraska's
Dave Hoppen to get into foul trouble in
the earlier meeting.
"Playing at Columbia is always tough,"
Nebraska Coach Moe Iba said. "You
figure if you get one (win) out of the
two (Missouri and Oklahoma), you'd
probably be happy with that."
Hoppen, with 27 points against Okla
homa, has become the Huskers' 16th
leading career scorer with 838 points.
He needs 12 points to suipass Grant
Simmons.
