Hot tub provides barrel of mn
The water barrel on the back porch can't com
pare. Neither can scrunching friends into a bath tub
filled with tepid water.
The hot tub experience cant be approximated
But for cash, it can be had in Lincoln.
Myron Malone, a native of Palmyra, packed up his
hot tub rental store in Dillon Colo., and brought it
here. For $7 per adult per hour on weekends, you
can fit as many as 10 adults into one of The
Tubbery3 hot tubs for one hour.
Malone said he brought the store to Lincoln
because there was no such place here, and because
it might prove lucrative once The Tubbery became

known around town. He said business at The Tubberv
has been getting better week by week since opening
last October.
The Tubbery, lower level of Haymarket Square,
818 P St., offers four private rooms, each complete
with tub, shower, towels and your choice of radio
station. Four tubs are available: one 10-man tub, one
eight-man tub, and two five-man tubs.
A group of six ardent Daily Nebraskan research
ers took to the tubs last Friday. The reaction was
entirely positive.
We were led to a private room. A hot tub filled
with clear, 103-degree water and surrounded by
redwood flooring sat waiting on a raised plat
form. The group chose a favored radio station, dis
robed and enjoyed an hour's worth of hot swirling
water and cool conversation.
Although $7 each seemed expensive, the privacy
and luxury of the room made it worthwhile.
Malone and his partner, Paul Becker, now offer a
reduced rate for groups Sunday through Thursday.
If a group can fill a tub, it's a bargain at $3 per
person.
The Associated Press reported last November
that herpes germs have been found to be able to live
for up to four hours in a wooden hot tub with insuf
ficient chemical treatment.
Malone said no such problems exist at The Tub
bery. The tubs are made of fiberglass, and bromine
instead of chlorine is used to keep the water sani
tary, Malone said. Bromine works better at high
temperatures than chlorine, and the fiberglass tubs
are simple to sanitize. Malone said the tub3 are emp
tied and refilled daily.
Malone said he wanted to keep The Tubbery from
becoming "a den of iniquity" so people under age 18
are not allowed to use the hot tubs unless they are
with a family or organization, such as a church
group.
His greatest fear about allowing minors in, he said,
is that an older male might have sex with a young
woman illegally.
"That would go on if we allowed it to," he said.
Customers arent supposed to bring alcohol into
The Tubbery, either, he added.
Customers sometimes come to The Tubbery after
a night of drinking, he said. If the person is obviously
intoxicated, he or she will not be allowed in. He said
if a person fell or got hurt in anyway, alawsuit might
result.
The Tubbery is open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday
through Thursday. It is open 1 1 a.m. to midnight on
Fridays and Saturdays and 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. on
Sundays.
For an hour of relaxation, both of mind and body,
The Tubbery cant be beat.
