Both tcrrj will compete Friday and Saturday in the Southern ILlnois Invitational, the big meet of the semester. "Our whole season to this point ha3 been with this meet in mind," men's coach Cal Bentz said. The invitational also will feature the host team, Southern Illinois, Florida State, South Carolina, Miami of Ohio and Indiana. ' This wl really be a strong lineup of teams," women's coach Ray Huppert said "I think some of the times that will be posted will be the best in the nation to this point" The women's opposition looks particularly touh. Kansas Csishedssventh in the NCAA meet last year, and Southern -Illinois, Florida State and South Carolina were all in the top 20. Indiana and Miami of Ohio will not field men's teams at the invitational, .Southern Illinois was the national independent champion last year and finished 10th at the NCAA meet Florida State and South Carolina finished in the top five at the national independent champion ships and Kansas was runner-up to Nebraska for the E:3 :ht crcivn. , , - Both Bentz and Huppert agreed that the meet's main purpose h to qualify svdmmers for the NCAA championships in March. . "If we could fmLh in the top three," Huppert said, "we'd be really happy,- because it would mean we qualified a let of swimmers." ' -..
