The only fault in Richie's show was the Diana Ross
video tape that accompanied "Endless Love." Ross
was supposed to appear on a screen opposite of
Richie, but if the projection did work, you couldnt
see it if you were on the extreme sides of the stage. It
would have been nice to hear more from Can Slow
Dovm, but "All Night Lon was the only song Richie
played from that album.
But when you can pull as diverse an audience in
age and race together for at least 90 minutes as
Richie did Saturday, you have to believe he didnt
need to spend a lot of time hawking a new album.
Besides, part of the appeal was singing along with all
those old songs, and Richie must have known that
He seemed to enjoy it as much as anyone there.

Television
Maiy Tyler Moore, Timothy Ilutton and Donald
Sutherland star in the 1980 film "Ordinary People"
tonight at 8 on Channel 3. The film was directed by
Robert Bedford. When it was first released, this
gripping adaptation of Judith Guest's novel was
seen as a breakthrough both for Moore, playing a
dramatic role after years of situation comedy, and
for Redford, who made his directorial debut. Red
ford and Hutton won Academy Awards for their
efforts.

Zubin Mehta leads the New York Philharmonic
tonight at 8 on KUCV (90.9 FM). Among tonight's
performers are the Westminster Choir and the New
York Choral Society.

The American Independent film Series wraps
up today after a weekend of fine viewing. Today's
films include "Willmar 8" and "Until She Talks" (3
p.m.), "Two Worlds of Angelita" (5 p.m.), "Joe's Bed
Stuy Barbershop" and "Possum Living" (7 p.m.) and
"Dark End of the Street" (9 p.m.).
OnStage
David Freeman's "Jesse and the Bandit Queen"
returns to the Studio Theatre stage tonight through
Saturday. Tickets to the play are $4 for students, 45
for the general public.
