Nebraska's women's basketball team started the
1D83-84 season Monday with their first practice,
and followed it up with a press and photo day
Tuesday.
Interim head coach Kelly Hill said while she
expects to improve on last year's 14-14 mark,
Nebraska will again face a height problem.
"We're not going to be really tall," Hill said. "We will
have a lot of quickness in the backcourt. Not too
many teams are going to be able Uraatch up with us
man to man."

This year's squad returns four starters and seven
returning lcttcnr.cn. Keili Benson, the only senior on
the team, and Juniors Dcbra Powell, Tcrri Parriott
and Cathy Owen have started for two years. Other
returning players include Crystal Coleman, Rhonda
Pieper and Jacquie Shackelford.
Powell, the leading scorer and rebounder on last
year's team, and Coleman, the second leading
scorer, were high school teammates and are key
players, Hill said.
"Deb Powell to one of our best athletes. She's an
Integral part of our transition play and our defense,"
Hill said.

Hill said Coleman, Nebraska's sixth player the last
two years, could start for the Huskcrs this year.
Of the Iiuskers' four recruits, Hill said Angis Miller
of Clatonia and Stacy Imming of Kearney should
have the best chance of contributing riht away.
Freshmen Heidi Keyea, Shelly Block and walk-on
Ann Costello should also see action, Hill said.
The 6-3 Kcyes to projected as a starter by Hill for
later in the season.
The women's team will play 14 doubleheader
games with Nebraska's men's team. Hill said the
trend towards doubleheaders should allow more
