Ar s&ow raises $14, 000

The American Cancer
Society and the city of
Lincoln benefited from
the Richard O. Joyce
Memorial Air Show Aug.
2 1 as an estimated crowd
of 10,000 people enjoyed
the aerial festivities. The
Cancer Society raised
approximately $3,000.
A wine and cheese
party to kick off the event
Aug. 20 raised an
additional $5,000.
' The air show at the
Lincoln Municipal Air
port, was dedicated to
Richard O. Joyce, a
Lincoln businessman
who died in February.
Joyce was part of the
famed Tokyo Raiders
that flew the first World
War II bombing mission
over Japan in 1942.
The group was led by
Gen. James Doolitte.
Doolittle attended the air
show and helped
dedicate a memorial to
Joyce for his contribu
tions to the Lincoln Air
port Authority and the
city of Lincoln.
Joyce, a Lincoln native,
was president of the
Henkle and Joyce
Hardware Co. and served
as chairman of the
Lincoln Airport
Authority.
The air show featured
hot air balloonists, sky
divers, gliders, ultra
lights, aerobatic air
planes and theTired Iron
Warbirds, made up of
planes and pilots of the
World War II era.
