Lawson said she writes the lyrics in her musical portfolio using tunes from older, popular songs. She has some standard songs for special occasions like 19th, 30th or 60th birth days, but will write a special message that includes pet peeves or hobbies. Lawson said most people can't tell that standard songs weren't written for them. Tune-a-gram performs for birthdays, anniver saries, Mother's and Father's Days, to cele brate new births and to wish someone a happy " divorce. Performers have even sung wedding pro posals and delivered rings. Lawson said singing tele grams are appropriate for any occasion almost She did refuse to fire one man's employees via Tune-a-gram. In addition to Lawson, Tune-a-gram employs the talents of Karl Nyquist, a music major at UNL; Ann Bauers, a belly dancer; Greg Ebert, a magician and Linda Plock and Regina Kennett, substitute dancers. These people help deliver the standard tunes, balloon-a-tunes and Mask-grams. Tune-a-gram also delivers Belly Teilys, Miss Pi!y (a sexy gram usually sent to men) or Ballerina-grams, a flirtatious male who is sent to women. People request Belly Teilys by Bauers more than any other special service, Lawson said. Bauers said she learned her belly dancing skills nine years ao at a seminar in Wichita. Now she teaches the skill at the YWCA and at seminars. She dances at parties and conventions in addition to performing Belly Telly. ) ' : ! Marlene Beyke, ASUN director of development, said most students res pond that they need the money, or that they dont use the services ade quately. Most refunds were given to non-traditional stu dents or students living off campus, she said. "Students lose out on a lot more than $5.16 by getting their refund," she said, citing ASUN's free legal service and UPCs films as examples.
