18 First Down Uxaizln ttonc'xy, Aug. 3, 1S33 Nebraska Penn State ejctend match-up for Kickoff Classic n By RANDY WYJSOF.E AND JOHN SEVERANCE Dally Nsbraskan and Dally C"2Sln Cporta Wdtsrs n ust when you thought it was safe to never have to attend or watch a Penn State Nebraska game JJ again, along comes something called the Kickoff Classic. , The series, that officially ended last year, will be renewed one more time. Both schools have different attitudes about the final game of the series. For Penn State players the game is a chance to prove themselves that there was no fluke involved. For Nebraska players, the game could, be better called the "Revenge" Classic. ' But this extension of the series should have never really come about and the series should have ended last year. Both clubs even voted at the National Collegiate Athletic Association convention against the playing cf the game. However, when the teams were chose, Nebraska and Penn State were presented with, offers they could cot refuse. And fans from both schools were able to get one more chance to witness a series that has been beneficial to both teams. Late in September of last year, die-hard Nebraska football fans went to their beds cn a Saturday evening saying, "If we only had one mere chance. . ." Thanks to the College Football Ilall cf Fame and the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, that dream of a last chance has become a reality. There are no other matchups slated between the two teams at least through the 1SS7 regular season, and not counting the possibility cf possible pest season meetings, Nebraska Athletic Director Cob Devaney says there has been no correspondence between the respective schools athletic departments to set up regular season games through 1S35. Nebraska leads the 10-game series, 6-4. However, in the . r - f -ArJ f- V 'V . , , JJ . '. . Sr - , - .... . j j s - : . ,' ' I; - -J f- ' . . V ' ' ... - . -, . .,;.' f--t3w .:.:; yxir. .' . . .
