Mon-Thurs 7:30-5:00 Friday 7:30-4:00 476-3515 11IO "Q" Ochlnd Kimball Hall Bremser and KFAB Continued from 21 As far as being a "cheerleader" type of broadcaster, what's wrong with that? Ninety-nine percent of his listeners are Husker fans. When dealing with a homo genous audience like that, there's noth ing wrong with being openly biased. It would be different if he were on a nationwide hookup, but in this situa tion, it's perfectly all right. Imagine Denny and Fred not being able to cheer for the Royals on the air! As far as the argument that Lyell is getting too old, well, I will admit that the Lyell Bremser of 1933 is not the same man of say, ten or t w enty years ago. But he still stands out among those who have done Busker games in the recent past. Tim Moreland, for merly of KFOR, was the only one who could approach Bremser's ability to make a broadcast absolutely exciting. Ray Scott is a well-known name, but didn't have the knowledge of the team and history of the program to really make the broadcast click. And, admittedly, Bremser does make mistakes on the air. Any broadcaster does. He does a good job, though, of relaying the essential information that the listener needs. Contrary to what some self-proclaimed broadcasting ex perts in these parts might say, you can follow a game, with great ease, when it's Lyell at the mike. Backing up Bremser again will be Kent Pavelka and Jack Payne. This team has been together since 1973, know each other well, and work to gether extremely well. Pavelka, who just might be the best sportsbroadcas- ter in the state, will continue to do Busker basketball play-by-play, and in that area he is untouchable. Payne will handle halftime shows and post-game comments again this year. Be has been around the Nebraska program since before Memorial Sta dium was built (or so it seems) and his vast legion of professional acquain tances always make for interesting halftime shows. $510,000 is a lot of cash to be cough ing up for these broadcasts, but KFAB seems to think it will be worth it. The University isn't crying any about it. Last season, they got $60,000 from the four stations originating broadcasts. For 1983, they are getting nine times that. The stations that get the broad cast feed from KFAB pay a fee, depend ing on the size of their audience. KFOR isn't telling what they had to pay to carry the games, but one outstate sta tion manager told me that his fee was $2,100 for both football and basketball much less than he paid for a similar hookup last season. And, KFAB is allowing him 81 30-second commer cials to be sold locally during each game, again more than last year's agree ment. He's happy, his advertisers are happy, everyone is happy except for those who say they can't stand Bremser. Well, to those of you who say you can't listen to him, I say: Too bad! But I'm one of those who knows that things just aren't right unless you have your Big Red t-shirt, a can or two of cold beverage, and "Mr. Football" on the radio. The Huskers solved some questions and remained relatively in jury free. "We've had really good luck with our injury situa tion," Osborne said. "When you consider that we've had 130 to 135 players practicing and we really haven't had a serious injury, that's pretty amazing." nnnnnnnc LJ Bring in this coupon 1 h S-sjtrs? l-J o J) (. i) D i , See us for complete eyeglass service. frame and lens repair, tinting and replacement And through September 3 it's a Buy 1 pair of glasses and rret a 4 second pair of equal value or less FREE! 333 Ho. 12th O 477-9347 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday-Friday Thursdays 12-8 PM 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM Saturday -it had ieads Together1 17th & R 475-4902 Long Hair Extra Expires Sept. 16, 1983 n f d Need money for tuition? o D D D a D Q D 0 D Q U I 1 n Harris Laboratories needs volunteers to n U help evaluate pharmaceuticals.
