Monday, August 29, 1983 Daily Nebraskan Page 21 Bremser and KFAB 'only game in town' One era ends and another begins tonight when Nebraska meets Penn State. No, it won't be the fact that Dave Uimington is no longer snapping the ball, and no, it's not the fact that Mike Corgan has given way to Frank Solich as backfield coach. It's up in the broadcast booth, where the era of four stations orig inating HusKcr broadcasts has ended. With tonight's John Kopetsky game, KFAB's Lyell Bremser not only begins his 45th season at the mike, but begins the first year of the new Nebraska Football Network. For those of you who haven't heard, KFAB and Bremser wil be "the only game in town" this year. The station is beginning a five-year contract to serve as flagship station for Husker football and basketball. KFAB has put together a 28-station network across the midlands, and in places likes Texas and Califor nia. Locally, KFOR (1240 AM) and KSRD (96.9 FM) will carry the games. Getting this exclusive contract was not cheap. KFAB submitted a sealed bid to the Univesity (as did WOW, KLIN, KFOR rud KLMS) for the rights. Their winning bid was about $540,000 a year for five years. So, this fall, Don Gill and Joe Patrick will be on the sidelines, Tim Moreland will be doing Minnesota Viking games, and Ray Scott has moved on to UCLA. Like him or not and there are plenty of the latter KFAB's "Mr. Football" is your only choice. Some poor souls don't especially care for Mr. Bremser's style of play-by-play. They say he's too old, too slow, and misses too many things. They add that he gets too excited, and really isn't unbiased. Well, I say that Lyell Bremser's broadcasts are good, excit ing and most importantly, makes you feel like your in the stadium.
