You don't have to be a child
to enjoy Children's Zoo fun
Opportunities to spend a day at the
zoo are dwindling as the day's of sum
mer slide by, but students still can view
Lincoln's assortment of creatures of
the wild.
One doesn't have to be a child to
have fun at the Folsom Children's Zoo
at 2800 A St.
Besides a variety of animals ranging
from tiny ground squirrels to huge
Clydesdale horses, the zoo features
Ben, the bear from the "Grizzly Adams"
television scries, botanical gardens, spe
cial petting areas where visitors can
touch the animals and a small Western
town. The town houses a concession
stand and the Birdcage Theater where
entertainers perform on Wednesday,
Saturday and Sunday.
A miniature train provides zoo
goers with a colorful tour of the zoo
grounds. Tickets for the train are 75
cents.
The Folsom Children's Zoo is open
seven days a week, from 10 a.m. to 5
p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
Friday and Saturday. Thursday hours
are 1 0 a.m. to G p.m. and Sunday hours
are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The zoo will close in mid-September
but will reopen for five nights before
Halloween and Christmas for special
holiday activities for children.
Admission to the zoo is $2 for adults
and 85 cents for children ages 2 to 12.
Children under 2 are admitted free.
Pioneers Park in west Lincoln is the
home of the Lincoln Municipal Zoo, a
wildlife preserve for native Nebraska
animals.
The preserve is open seven days a
week, from sunrise to midnight during
the summer and from sunrise to sun
set in the winter. There is no admission
charge
