Sheldon Art Gallery Photography, paintings, sculpture, ceramics and weaving works highlight the many exhibitions sche duled for Sheldon Art Gallery this semester. Assist ant Director Donald Doe said there is some t hjng for everyone interested in photography as well as ot her areas of art. John Pfahl and Victor Schrager, two avant garde photographers to be featured this semester, were widely acclaimed by critics, Doe said. Dan Howard, of the "Dan Howard Retrospective," is a member of the UNL art faculty. Using the physical space of the gallery as a "can vas" upon which she works, artist Noreen Christon uses the accoustical characteristics of Sheldon in her exhibition. She is the only Nebraskan in the current traveling show assembled by the Mid America Arts Alliance, Doe said. Theatre Plans The University Theatre, 12 and R street, is plan ning four new plays: "Key Exchange," "Jesse and The Bandit Queen," "Meg" and "Beyond Therapy" as well as four classics: "Major Barbara," "Much Ado About Nothing," "A Christmas Carol" and "Summer and Smoke." A romantic comedy, "Key Exchange" by Kevin Wade will run Sept. 29 and 30 and Oct. 1, and October 3 through 8 in the Temple's Studio Theatre. It will be directed by Lindsay Korth, a graduate student specializing in directing. Korth is also directing the current production,'The Dresser," about the backstage life of aging Shakespearean actor, "Sir," played by Rex McGraw, chairman of the department. State Sen. David Landis plays the role of Sir's costumer valet. "The Dresser" is produced by the Nebraska Direc- tor's Theatre to raise money for graduate assistant ships. Performances will be Thursday through Sun day, Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 through 3 in the Studio Theatre. "Major Barbara," George Bernard Shaw's comedy, will open Oct. 20, 21 and 22 in Howell Theatre and will continue Oct. 25 through 29. It is directed by William Morgan. David Freeman's adult comedy "Jesse and The Bandit Queen" will be performed in the Studio Thea tre Nov. 1 0, 1 1 and 1 2, and 1 4 through 1 9. Graduate student Stan Halhl will direct. "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens will have evening and matine e performances at Howell Thea tre. The dates and times are: Dec. 1 through 3, 5 through 10. 12 through 17 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, and 18 at 2:30 p.m. Graduate student Christopher Wineman will direct. Auditions for all four plays begin Sunday. The sign-up board is in the lower level of the Temple Building. Season tickets for UNL Theatre's 1983-84 produc tions go on sale Monday at the theater box office in the Temple Building. Box office hours are noon to 5 p.m. weekdays and noon to 8 p.m. on performance nights. All performances begin at 8 p.m. unless oth erwise specified. Performing Arts Center The 1983-84 Kimball Performing Arts Series fea tures dance, music and theater by internationally known professional artists. "Gertrude Stein, Gertrude Stein," a performance by Pat Carroll, will open the season Sept. 25. Winner of the 1980 Outer Critics Circle Award, it is an imaginary monologue by Gertrude Stein reminisc ing about her life. Laura Dean Dancers and Musicians will perform Oct. 1. Oscar Wilde's comedy, 'The Importance of Being Earnest," will be performed Oct. 3 by the Missouri Rcpeitory Theater. The Gerry Mulligan Jazz Quartet will perform Oct. 8. The Paillard Chamber Orchestra from France is a 14-membcr string ensemble conducted by Jean Francois Paillard. The concert is scheduled for Oct. Hi. The London Early Music Group, comprised of four instrumentalists, soprano and tenor will perform music from the Middle Ages and Renaissance on Nov. 4. Pianist Alicia de Larrocha will play Spanish music Nov. G. The Ohio Ballet will present 20 dancers Nov. 11 and 12 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 13 at 3 p.m. Season tickets are on sale until Sept. 25 at the Kimball box office. ,.
