As the saying goes, "AH work and no
play makes JackJackie a dull boy
girl." Many would agree college should
be more than studying every night
until 1 a.m. Sometimes it's OK to drink
until 1 a.m.
Barry's, 235 N. Ninth St. For a bar
they serve pretty good food. A good
place to go after the Big Red game.
Barrymore's, 124 N. 13th St. You
might have a hard time finding this
place. Look in the alley between Max
well's Bakery and J.C. Penney's. A con
versation bar.
The Brass Rail, 1436 0 St. One of
the few with a beer garden. Popular
with Greeks, Turks and other na
tionalities. Casey's, 1020 P St. An average bar
with occasional live entertainment. Cur
rently being remodeled.
Chesterfield, Bottomsley & Potts,
245 N. 13th St. Chestys is the place to
play "Hi, Bob" on Friday afternoons.
Live music on weekends.
ClifTs Lounge, 1200 0 St. Not to be
confused with Cliffs Notes. Business
men drink here. The owner is Cliff
Thone, brother of the former governor.
Free munchies.
Dinsdale's, 1230 P St. Stained glass,
polished bar, "classy." For the pre-law
crowd. Relaxed, conversation bar.
Duffy's Tavern, 1420 O St. Shuffle
board players, competition is fierce
here. Food served until 1 1 p.m. Try the
Duffy Burger.
Horsefeathers, W.C.'s, 1228 P St.
Both are "college" bars. Decor isn't
much, but you can eat peanuts and
drop shells on the floor. W.C's is on top.
Great view of P Street. Tell the door
man you're a Brewers fan.
Larry's Showcase, 1316 N St. If you
don't like the music, go downstairs and
play pinball, pool or video games.
McGufTey's, 1042 P St. One of the
"nicer" bars. They also serve good food.
Occasional live music.
O'ltourke's, 121 N. 14th St. The
"Rugby Bar." A great place to watch the
ball game in the afternoon. Free pop
corn. No live music, but some of the
bartenders do standup comedy. The
quintessential jukebox.
Oscar's, 819 0 St. try the 32-ounce
beers. They're a real bargain.
Elk's Cornhusker Lodge, 3 1 9 S. 1 1 th
St. Well-established, black-owned bar.
P.O. Pears, 322 S. Ninth St. Here
boys come to watch the girls who come
to watch the boys who. . .
Sandy's, 1348 O St. A Wahoo-type
atmosphere. Wednesday night and Fri
day afternoon specials. Walls are freshly
scrubbed, so bring your best grafitti.
Sidetrack, Seventh and P streets.
Trivia contests on Tuesday nights. Joyce
Durand on piano Fridays and Satur
days. She knows every song in the
world.
Stooges, 826 P St. Three-fers, four
fers, five-fers. . .used to be a disco, but
parons dance to a different beat now.
Or try to. Cover charge, bars on two
levels. Even Larry, Curly and Moe could
score here.
Sweep Left and Peter McCue's, 8 1 5
O St. The Sweep is owned by a couple of
former Huskers and goes wild after a
football game. McCue's currently fea
tures female dancers from 5 p.m. to 9
p.m.
Zoo Bar, 136 N. 14th St. Immortal
ized in People magazine because Rockin'
Bob Kerrey took Debra Winger there.
