UNL offers a number of special services designed
to meet the needs of various groups of students. The
following programs provide a wealth of valuable
information and free assistance.
International Educational Services Offices
Nebraska Union 345
Director: Peter Levitov
IES provides orientation, counseling and advising
for foreign students, and serves as their officieal
liaison with the VS. Immigration and Naturaliza
tion Senice. Staff members help new foreign stu
dents make important contacts on campus and in
the community, often placing them with host fami
lies. They frequ ently offer worksh ops to bring Amer
ican and international students together.
Multi-Cultural Affairs

Assistance is provided for black, hispanic, per
manent immigrant and Native American students.
The service also administers the Learning Center,
which helps ethnic-minority students improve their
reading, wTiting and general studying skills. It also
provides for tutoring.

As well as running orientation programs for new
students during the summer, the office opens its
door to all students throughout the year to answer
any type of question.
Institute for International Studies

study programs, including applications for major
fellowships and scholarships for semester and year
study abroad. '

yer may negotiate problems, explain aspects of the
law and suggest legal alternatives. Confidentiality is
