"Beautiful music." Like most stations of this genre, the music is pre-programmed, although KLIN-FM does feature Sandy Jackson broadcasting live in the mornings. There are some local news feeds, and the station features CBS news when it simulcasts with its sister sta tion, KLIN-AM after midnight. KRNU (C0.3 FM) UNL's broadcasting service, KRNU features contemporary music and sev eral "alternative" features, including the Metropolitan Opera, coverage of the NU Board of Regent's meetings, and selected cases before the Ne braska Suipreme Court. The station also receives several syndi air since 1970, features news feeds from the ABC contemporary network. Because of FCC foot-dragging, KRNU still broadcasts at a low wattage, how ever it is easily received on campus and adjacent areas. KSRD (96.9 FM) With the demise of KBHL, "Super country" KSRD is Lincoln's only FM country music station. The emphasis is on contemporary country music, with live personalities during the drive times. The station also receives several syndi cated programs, including "The Ameri can Silver Eagle" program Sundays at 8:30 p.m. and a Top 10 program, Sundays at noon. In addition, it will be carrying the UNL football broadcasts. KUCV(G0.9FM) KUCV is Lincoln's only classical music outlet. Needless to say, this vaulted position gives KUCV a special standing in the intellectual community. KUCV is also the city's NPR affiliate. In addition to NPR, some ABC news feeds are utilized. A non-commercial station, KUCV memberships begin at $20 for anyone interested. KXSS (95.3 FM) The newest entry in the Lincoln market is KXSS, "Lincoln's new Kiss." Another Top 40 station, KXSS offers news at 20 minutes after and ten minutes until the hour from 5:50 a.m. to 11:55 a.m. and then again at 4:50 p.m. and 5:20 p.m. The station also features live announcers all day. KXSS offers only two features weekly, "Concert Features" at 9 p.m. Sunday evenings followed by Dr. Demento at 11p.m. KZUM (89.5 FM) Variety is the name of the game at KZUM, Lincoln's public access radio station. Natalie McClendon, acting station manager at the station said that "the fact that all the programming is done by volunteers from the community" gives the station a "wider range of music and political backgrounds" from which to work. He walks the New York stre ets like oil pours; it is evident that this is His Town, these are His People. A pass is over thrown in a game of stre et football, and there he is to make the catch. A woman is walking a herd of about eight dogs, one gets away, and there's the Coolest Guy in the Whole World to swoop up the miscreant pooch and deliver it unharmed to a greatful, and gorgeous, wo man. This guy is so cool he even smokes cool; that is to say, he smokes Kool. He even sneaks in a puff or two backstage, before his climatic saxophone solo. "It all looks very slick too slick. That's when the pastiche of scenes starts to add up, and one realizes that in his slavish devotion to the Coolest Guy in the Whole World image, he has sacrificed both his real self and mean ingful relations with the humans around him. His life is an endless series of gladhands and gotta-go-nows, the form of friend ship without the sub stance. Ultimately, his on ly friend is hi cool, re presented by his Kool cig arettes.
