Tim Schmad, director of public relations for Ak-Sar-Ben, said this year's season will begin on Tuesday, May 3 and run until Saturday, Aug. 27, a total of 85 racing days. Schmad said that more than $8 million in purses will be offered, as compared to approximately $6 mil lion last year. "That's by far the most we've ever offered in purses," he said.
