sunshine. Lincoln has five public golf
courses.
Hidden Valley Golf Course and Club,
10501 Pine Lake Road, has all dav rates
of S4 Monday through Friday and S5
on weekends, Jean Dietrich, co-owner,
said.
When asked about availability, Beitrich
said there is quite a bit of room on the
course.
"Some weekends you might have to
wait a little while, but not like the city
courses where you have to wait for two
hours," she said.
Bietrich said the course is in pretty
good shape, and it would improve a lot
with some sunshine and warm weather.
Bob Schuchart, golf pro and manager,
said availability is not too much of a
problem at Holmes Park Golf Course,
and summer golfers can get on fairly
readily.
However, he said weekdays from 4
p.m. to 6 pan. were usually reserved for
league play.
Weekday costs at Holmes Paik arc
S4.75 for nine holes and $6.50 for 18
holes. On weekends, $5.25 for nine holes
and $7.50 for 18 holes.
"Generally, the course is in pretty good
shape," Schuchart said. "All we need is
some sunshine and warm weather."
During the summer, Schuchart said
the course is usually filled to 80 percent
capacity.
"Everybody likes to play at the same
time. In the summer, the middle of the
day is the hottest and it's not ideal golf
weather so people go in the early morn
ing," he said. "In the fall, the weather is
cooler and people don't play in the early
morning."
Schuchart said there is not much
competition from Omaha courses, and
in fact, it tends to be just the opposite.
"On a per capita basis, Lincoln has
better courses," he said. "We also have
more courses. Omaha has two excellent
courses for a town of its size, but Lincoln
has three."
Parks

Zoos are another special attraction of
the city's parks. Pioneers Zoo in Pioneers
Park covers 65 acres where visitors may
drive around and view the animals from
their cars. The zoo includes animals from
each major geographical region except
Australia.
Children's Zoo is not operated by the
city of Lincoln.
Ager Zoo, formerly named Antelope
Zoo, is located in Antelope Park. It is
open from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Pioneers
Zoo is open from 6 a.m. to 1 1 p.m.
Wilderness Park closes year-round at
sundown, and Pioneers Park's hours are
subject to seasonable changes. The rest
of the Lincoln municipal parks open at
sunrise and close at midnight - so don't
get caught parking after hours!
