NFL draft osdis rest assured
By Randy Wymore
The NFL draft is over.
It is for Cornhuskers Dave Rimington,
Jamie Williams and Roger Craig, anyway.
Rimington was the 25th player picked
in the draft Monday, going to the Cincin
nati Bengals. Craig went next - in the
third round - to the 49ers of San Francis
co, while Williams is headed to New Jer
sey and the New York Giants.
At a press conference Wednesday, both
Williams and Rimington said that they
were relieved the waiting was finally over,
and happy with their new homes.
"The hardest thing about the whole deal
is waiting," Rimington, who lias gone with
out sleep tor 30 hours, said. "But it's a
good feeling and l hope l can contribute to
the team."
Rimington also told reporters that being
a first-round pick meant realization of a
long time dream.
"I want to play football and it's a great
opportunity," he said. "I've always dream
ed of being a first-round pick."
Williams was especially pleased with his
new situation.
"That's the team that I wanted to play
for," Williams said of the Giants. "New
York seemed like the place for me."
Williams said that a conversation he had
with Giant Coach Bill l'arcells gave him a
boost in confidence going into Monday's
festivities.
"He told me I was in the best position
of any tightend in the country to get draft
ed today."

When asked why he thought lie didn't
go higher in the draft, the second tight end
to be picked said that the teams began to
"play a game." After the first defensive
back was picked, Williams said that lie kit
the oilier teams didn't want to miss out on
the others; consequently, there was a
lengthy run on defensive secondary posi
tions. As it turned out, Williams waited until
the beginning of the third round and the
Giants' fourth pick of the d3y. The only
other tight end drafted ahead of Williams
was Notre Dame's Tony Hunter.
Both Rimington and Williams were at
home watching the draft on ESPN.
"I'm real happy to be the second tight
end picked," Williams said. "That means
the world to me."
There is a strong possibility tli3t Rim
ington will be switched from center to
guard. But he doesn't have any qualms
about the supposed move.
As lor his situation with the Boston
Breakers of the I'SFL, Rimington said
everything is still pictty much up in the
air. The Bicakers offered Rimington a
siable amount of money when they chose
him in their draft in January, and should
that offer exceed the one which will be
made by the Bengals. Rimington will have
another decision to make.
"I'd have to think about it very serious
ly," he said. "But that's up to my agent.
That's why I hired him."
Craig was at his home in Davenport,
Iowa, and could not be reached for comment.
