Tuesday, April 26, 1983 Daily Ncbraskan Thirtean UNL students recipients of Vrealand Award for creativity Thirteen UNL students received Vreeland Awards last Friday afternoon in the annual awards program in Sheldon l ilm Theatre. Beginning in 1951), William Francis Vreeland bequested funds to UNL to be awarded "for exceptional creative ability" in the fields of art, English and music. The award is in cash to be used in any way the recipient wishes. Following a talk at the awards presenta tions by Gerhard Meisels, interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, the winners in the English and music depart ments performed .or read their works. Frio Ottcm read the final scene from his prose work "Rotten Apples," a story about a Sisyphus-like parks employee. Kathlecne West read the poem "Wind cluirjrom her collection "One Winter Hour." West, who recently received her doctorate in English,' will be continuing her studies on a Fulbright scholarship at the University of Iceland! In the field of musical composition, the audience was treated to a haunting Frank Wilhoit arrangement of a Blake piece for vocal soloist and french horn, composed by David Scholl and four short pieces for string quartet by Laura Copplc.
