Sue Tidball Award recioient WOMEN'S WEEK 1983
to be announced Saturday
The 1983 recipient of the second annual
Sue Tidball Award for Creative Humanity
will be announced Saturday at 8 p.m. at St.
Mark's Episcopal Church and Student
Center, 1309 R St.
Six chosen nominees for the award were
judged by a selection committee set up by
United Ministries in Higher Education on
the basis of their involvement in the com
munity and with UNL, said John Brecken
ridge, associate director of UNL's counsel
ing center.
"The winner was selected on how nearly
he or she reflects the set criteria, such as in
volvement with UNL or membership in
diverse groups," Breckenridge said.
The award originated last year as a way
to honor people in the UNL community
who have made significant contributions to
the development of humane, educationally
creative and just community on the UNL
campus. The award is named in honor of
Sue Tidball, who was a counselor and
resource consultant with Commonplace
UMHE when she died in 1976.
Nominees for the 1983 award include
Rowena Boykin, retired coordinator of
International Educational Services; Marcee
Metger, student and former coordinator
of the Women's Resource Center; Don
Payne, assistant director of Admissions and
Advising; Patty Plotnick, media production
specialist at the Barklcy Center; Dolores
Simpson-Kirkland, assistant to the Dean of
Students, and Vernon Williams, director of
the Counseling Center.
The winner will have his or her name
engraved on the plaque displayed in the
UMHE office, and will receive a certificate
and a small honorarium, Breckenridge said.
