Everyone knows that blood is the
mainstay of human life. When a person is
injured and needs a vital blood transfusion,
the American Red Cross steps in to help.
Beginning Tuesday on East Campus
and continuing today and Thursday in the
Nebraska Union, the American Red Cross
blood drive is in full swing.
"This is the first time we've been on
East Campus," she said. "We are really
excited to be here and working with
Agronomy Club," said Carole Shafer,
president of the Campus Red Cross.
Shafer said she expected about 150
units of blood to come from East Campus,
but she could not speculate on the total
number of units that could be collected.
The American Red Cross expects to
collect 225 units of blood today and 275
units Thursday on City Campus, Shafer
said. The figures were reached by the
number of units collected from campus
blood drives in the past.
All blood collected in this and all Mid
west blood drives stays in the Midwest,
Shafer said. Two organizations will be
using the blood collected in this drive.
The Lincoln Community Blood Bank
of the Lancaster County Medical Society,
which serves Lancaster and Seward
counties, and the Midwest Region Blood
services, which serves 105 hospitals in
Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas, are the
organizations involved in this drive, Shafer
said.
If a student or anyone interested in
giving blood does not have an
appointment, Shafer said no such
appointment was necessary.
"People without an appointment can
just walk in," she said. "That would be
great."
The bloodmobile will be at City Campus
today and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4
p.m. in the Union Centennial Ballroom.
