The court deliberated behind closed doors in response to former ASUN President Dan Wedekind's request for a decision concerning the pertinence of Article VJ1, Section 3.13.3, in matters of contested elections. The article states in part that "all campaign candidates' activities must be in accordance with the UNL Code of Conduct." Wedekind's request was prompted by an alleged violation of state law by former presidential candidate Joni Jacobs of the Anarky Party. Jacobs is awaiting arraignment on charges of mutilating an American ilag. , "I want to make sure that students and the general public are aware that neither I nor the students in my administration condone such blatant disrespect for our country," Wedekind stated in a press release. Wedekind lias said that, if the Student Court can rule on the case, it will he up to students to piess charges. ASUN has received mostly verbal complaints, but lie said he knew of at least one complaint at (lie UNL Police Department. Wedekind did not attend the court proceedings. Although a letter sent by Wedekind to Chief Justice Todd Morrison of the Student Court asked for clarification of the Student Court's role in relation to civil proceedings, no explanation was given. Morrison was not available for comment. Jacobs said she believed the allegations against her are a matter between the state and herself. "It's entirely between the state and the individual," she said. "It is not a student-to-student matter," 'Barrow'. Fiedler's timing was on, and the audience applauded him with laughter. Fiedler, who has practiced law in Omaha for 13 years, said he did not start acting until after he became a lawyer. Although he has had numerous roles since then the most gratifying was his performance as lxmny in a 1980 production of John Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men," for which he won the Fonda-McGuire Award and the Critic's Award. Currently, he is woiking on an Nebraska I-TV Netwoik series to be released soon titled, "We Are One," which is about a family ol, Swedish immigrants lacing lite on the Nebraska prairie. Fiedler said he believes that the balance between his law career and his acting is where it should be. "If I were to act on a full-time basis, I would still want to be a lawyer," he said. Lawyers have a tremendous amount of showmanship, he added, and for him it has helped. Wednesday night's performance was sponsored by the Assocation of Trial Lawyers of America is conjunction with The Nebraska Transcript.
