Cqwq Wednesday, March 30, 1983 to 'reach 'foe horizons' By Mania Warkcntin Native American youth from Nebraska will participate in the second annual spring conference of the Nebraska Native American Student Congress today through Friday at UNL. The conference, sponsored by the University Program Council Native American Special Events Committee and the UNL chapter of NNASC, will emphasize "Reaching for Horizons." Glenda Alihaitty of Rockwell International Corporation in Downing, Calif., will talk about "Future Careers in High Technology" Wednesday at 6 p jn. in the Nebraska Union Rostrum. Alihaitty, a Cherokee Indian, is the administrator of the economic development programs for the Community Interface Program of Rockwell International Space Transportation Systems Group - builders of the Apollo program, the space shuttle and the NASTAR satellite system. Her lecture includes a film showing of "Quest," which portrays manned flight from the days of Kitty Hawk to the space shuttle, and slides featuring Indian employees of Rockwell International. The free lecture is open to the public. The week will be highlighted by a recognition banquet Thursday at 6 pjii. in the Nebraska Union Ballroom. Howard Raincr from American Indian Services at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, will be the keynote speaker. A dance will follow the banquet at 9 pjn. in the Centennial Room. Other events of the week include: "Spirit of the Trees" exhibit of Gerald Saunders' woodcarvings on display today at the Governors' Mansion until 4 p.m. Thursday workshops: 8:30 a jn. - Academic Study Skills; Debbie CutcliJT of the UNL Learning Center. 12:30 p.m. - Recruitment and Retention of Members; Ennio Quevedo, activities coordinator for Campus Activities and Programs. 2:15 p.m.- Fundraising;Tom Hansen, manager of Citizens for Environmental Improvement. 3:30 pjn. - Personal Goal Setting; Gail DiSabatino, CAP program coordinator. Friday workshops : 9 ajn. to 4 pjn. - Improving Self image and Motivation Skills; Howard Rainer. The workshops, which will be in the Nebraska Union, are tailored for Native American youth.
