UNL Opera u heaire presents
Puccini's '11 Triiiico' at Kimball
The UNL Opera Theatre is presenting
Puccini's "II Trittieo" (The Tiptych) at
Kimball Hall tonight, Saturday and
Sunday. The performances, which will be
in l'nglish, will be at 8 p.m. tonight and
1'iiday.and at 3 p.m. Sunday.
11 Trittico" is three different short
operas presented in one evening. Composer
Giacomo Puccini is best known for his
operas, "Madame Butterfly" and "La
Boheme."
The first opera in the performance,
the comedy "Gianni Schicchi," is about a
family of greedy relatives deciding how to
split the inheritance of a not -yet -dead
wealthy relative; a comic turn of events
creates a madcap ending.

B. Mumgaard, Brian Leeper, Donna Hurler
and Scott Miller.
The second opera, "II Tabarro." is a
melodrama set on the Seine in Trance.
The passion of those working on the river
culminates into the violence of music.

Council is presenting two
shows tonight on the City
and Last campuses.
Singer, guitarist and
songwriter Gene Cotton per
forms tonight in the Great
Plains Room of the Nebras
ka East Union.
The UPC-American Films
Committee is showing
"42nd Street" at 7 and 9
p.m. tonight. The film stars
Warner Baxter, Ruby Ke
eler, Dick Powell and Gin
ger Rogers. Tickets are S2
for students and S3 general
admission.
Featured in this performance will be
Greg Berg. John Delluan. Ann Louise
Blanshan and Cheiie Carl.
"Suor Angelica" is the final opera of
the evening and is set in the quiet confines
of a Tuscan, Italy convent. Sister Angelica,
formerly a young woman of high social
standing, has been sent to a convent wkre
she in confronted with tragedy. This
performance contains some of Puccini's
most rapturous music.
Constance Crom Rock and Judy Cole
Shannon will be featured in this perform
ance. Director Gregg Tallman vs ill give an
informative performance in Room 119 in
the West brook Music Building half an hour
before the opera. Tallman will perform
music from the score and explain the
operas.
Tickets are S7 and S5 for general
admission, and S5 and S3 for students and
children. Tickets are available at the Kim
ball Box Office. 1 1 a.m. to 5 p.m. through
Friday.
