OTA supports nuclear waste law By Kathleen Green The Residence Hall Association Thursday moved to support a proposed Lincoln ordinance that would re quire that the city be informed of the specific times when nuclear wastes will be shipped through Lincoln and the UNL campus. City Councilman Eric Youngberg, who proposed the ordinance, said there was a derailment a month ago on the same railroad tracks that Burlington Northern will use to ship spent nuclear fuel. The track is near the Har-per-Schramm-Smith residence halls. Youngberg said the city's fire and police departments don't have the equip ment to control radiation problems should an accident occur during shipment of the waste through Lincoln. In other action, it was announced that next fall a residence floor in either the Neihardt Residence center or Selleck Quadrangle could be left unoccupied and de signated for use by students needing to stay in the halls during Thanksgiving, Christmas and spring breaks. It also would be used by visiting professors on campus to pre sent lectures. RHA adviser Richard McKinnon said he is unsure what the rate for rooms on the proposed "hotel room" would be. It also was announced that the filing of parties and candidates for RHA elections begins today and will con tinue through March 9, the day of the RHA and ASUN elections.
